For my GP1, I am planning to do a research on corporate culture in Japanese companies, especially focusing on the acceptance of people who belong in sexual minority.
The term "corporate culture" refers to the values, beliefs, and behaviors shared within the members of an organization, depending on the goals, strategies, and structure it holds. It exists in any organization, with each having its own culture. It is what effects the members strongly in how they interact with each other and make the atmosphere of the organization.
Japan is often considered as a closed country, where many people tend to feel blending in and accepted by the society by being "the same", as in belonging to the majority. This culture obviously effects corporate culture in companies. In past years, many LGBTs, who are part of the social minority's in the concept of sexuality, experienced serious discrimination. No matter how talented they were, the society didn't accept them just because they were somehow different. This lead creative and talented people to not be able to have jobs in companies where many are straight, and only have particular jobs in communities that they are socially accepted. However as years pass and people in Japan finally start to realize the importance of diversity due to the effect from diverse countries such as the US, and the shrink of work forces. In recent years companies accepting diversity, including sexual minority, are increasing as they feel the necessity of people with diverse talents. For my research, I will focus on companies that are making rules and programs supporting diverse employees in workplaces.
