My feedback on last semester and my plans for GP1
Hospitality event
In October, we held an お月見 party as a hospitality event. We made 白玉 and 焼き芋 to host or guests so that they will be able to understand what autumn is like in Japan through these foods. The good points of this event, were that people came even if it was just for the food. We also made recipes for the food we mad and gave it out for our guests to take home. Later, we cooked the food together and interacted with our guests. I feel it was a good idea that we chose 白玉and 焼き芋, because the methods were easily understood and we were able to make them without any mistakes.
On the other hand, the bad points and the mistakes we made through this event were that it took more time to cook than we expected, so the guests had to wait for a while for the food to be ready. To prevent this, we should have started to make the food before the guests had arrived. Also, because we were preparing and cooking, we did not have enough time to interact with the guests while they were waiting for us. If we had started to prepare a little earlier, the guests would not had to wait and had something to do.
Overall for this event, I think that we did a good job hosting the guests. However, if we had another chance to do this event, I think we would do a better job. I feel this way because we were able to learn more about hospitality through this event and through the whole semester.
Field work to Shibuya
We went to Shibuya to listen to a talk about girls getting involved in dangerous sexual videos. We were warned about the risks and the dangerousness of being involved in these videos. I had never thought that such thing was so close to our lives, but after hearing the story of people being involved, I was very shocked and scared that something like this might happen to me or to people close to me. I think that more people should be aware of the situation and that it is not an outside situation.
My personal project
For my personal project for my graduation thesis, I want to research about psychology for people who is dealing with identity crisis.
Having lived in the UK for over 12 years, I myself have been struggling with personality and identity crisis in Japan at the moment. I was not aware that I was in this loop of crisis. However, learning psychology in Patrice’s lab, I found out about this. I learnt that people who has lived in two countries tend to have this, and people who has lived in three countries or more do not have identity crisis. I have not started to study and learn about this topic deeply yet, but I would like to research about this and learn more next semester. I am also planning on interviewing some people who are in the same situation as me, those who are LGBTs, and those who are struggling with their personalities.
